What are my options for rehabbing or replacing my current countertops?

Comparing Your Options

Choosing between resurfacing (rehabilitating) and a full replacement depends on your current layout, the condition of your cabinets, and your design goals.

1. Rehabbing (Epoxy Resurfacing)

This involves applying a high-performance epoxy coating directly over your existing countertops (laminate, wood, tile, etc.).

Advantages:

Cost-Effective: Significantly more affordable than purchasing and installing new stone slabs.

Hassle-Free Process: Eliminates debris and potential wall or cabinet damage typically caused by "ripping out" old surfaces.

Eco-Friendly & Sustainable: A greener way to remodel that preserves your existing materials and keeps old countertop waste out of the landfill.

Total Customization: You can mimic rare marbles or exotic stones that would otherwise be cost-prohibitive.

Disadvantages:

Layout Limits: You are restricted to your current countertop footprint and shape.

Base Condition: If your current counters are rotting or structurally unstable, they cannot be resurfaced.

Maximum Site Disruption: Since the artistry happens directly on your existing surfaces, your workspace transforms into an active studio that must remain completely cleared and undisturbed. To guarantee a flawless finish, the area must stay strictly off-limits to children, pets, and dust during the critical pouring and initial curing stages. While the room will be 'out of commission' for several days, we can easily coordinate the installation while you are away from your home or business for an extended period, though this is not required. 

2. Full Replacement

This involves removing the old countertops entirely and installing new materials (New Epoxy-poured slabs, Granite, Quartz, etc.).

Advantages:

Freedom of Design:  A full replacement is the ideal choice if you are planning a complete kitchen or bathroom remodel or if you simply desire an entirely new countertop surface. It offers the perfect opportunity to reconfigure your space—whether that means expanding an island, adding a breakfast bar, or relocating the sink. Since a total remodel often involves moving plumbing or cabinetry, starting fresh with a new countertop ensures a seamless fit and a cohesive design. 

Disruption: Contrary to common belief, a full replacement often involves less on-site disruption. Because your new countertops are custom-fabricated in our shop beforehand, the actual time spent in your home is typically limited to just 1–2 days for the demolition and final installation.

Structural Integrity: Ensures you start with a 100% brand-new, level foundation.

Hidden Damage: Allows you to inspect and repair any underlying cabinet or plumbing issues.

Project Timeline: While natural stone often requires a 6–8 week lead time from template to installation, our epoxy process is significantly faster. A full replacement is typically completed within 2–3 weeks, while resurfacing your existing countertops can be finished in just 10–14 days. 

Disadvantages:

Potential Higher Cost: Requires new materials plus labor for demolition, removal and installation. 

Possible Collateral Damage: Removal of old tops often requires backsplash repair / replacement or wall painting afterward.

While natural stone is beautiful, the high cost and invasive installation can be significant barriers. Epoxy provides a smarter path to a luxury kitchen, bathroom or business space by offering:

Choosing epoxy isn't about cutting corners—it’s about making a high-performance, high-style decision for your home or business.

 To ensure a flawless finish and maximum hardness, we recommend maintaining a room temperature between 68°F and 75°F with 30% to 60% humidity during the pouring and curing process. It is critical that the environment stays above 65°F for the first 72 hours, as lower temperatures can stall the chemical reaction. By pouring your countertops in our climate-controlled workshop, we can manage these specific variables perfectly before delivering the finished product to your home or business. 

Our epoxy countertops are specifically engineered for the high-traffic demands of kitchens and bathrooms. While it takes approximately 30 days for the surface to reach its maximum hardness and full chemical cure, it remains functional and usable during this time. Once fully cured, the surface becomes incredibly resilient—resisting chips, blisters, peeling, and heavy scratches. Additionally, our formulas offer excellent UV resistance and can withstand temperatures up to 450°F, making them a durable, long-term solution for both home and office environments. 

Yes, our surfaces are designed for daily kitchen use. The Ultimate Top Coat is engineered to withstand temperatures up to 450 degrees without sustaining permanent damage. However, for the long-term health and beauty of your finish, we recommend using a trivet or hot pad when placing high-heat items like cast iron skillets or cookie sheets directly from the oven onto the surface.  

When exposed to high heat, epoxy may temporarily soften, though it will return to its original hardness once cooled. As an added precaution for long-term cooking, we suggest placing a wood or plastic cutting board (ideally with soft feet or felt pads) under appliances like crock pots. This provides a protective air barrier that preserves the integrity of your countertop during extended use. 

Maintaining your epoxy countertops is simple and hassle-free. For daily cleaning, we recommend using a microfiber cloth with mild dish soap and water. For tougher spots, a small amount of 91% isopropyl alcohol works wonders. To preserve the finish, please avoid abrasive scrubbers or harsh chemicals, which can dull or damage the surface over time. 

While our epoxy surfaces are highly durable, they are heat-resistant rather than heat-proof. To keep your countertops looking brand new, we recommend using trivets or hot pads for pots and pans straight from the stove or oven. For long-term maintenance, applying a fresh layer of protective top coat every 6–8 years will refresh the shine and ensure maximum longevity. 

PRO TIP: While epoxy is incredibly resilient, highly pigmented items like wine, turmeric, mustard, and powdered drink mixes can cause stubborn stains if left to dry. To keep your surface flawless, wipe up spills promptly. For a deeper clean on tough spots, simply saturate the area with 91% isopropyl alcohol and wipe away with a clean microfiber towel.
